Our Digital Skills Ethos

Demand for digital skills in both academic and professional environments is ever-growing. While these skills are undeniably vital, they’re no different from any other skill set—every individual has their own strengths and areas to improve.

Yet, digital skills are often subject to assumptions. Despite the increasing emphasis on digital literacy, there’s a persistent expectation that individuals are already familiar with a range of tools. This can lead to gaps in knowledge being overlooked, leaving many without the support they need.

At the FMS TEL Digital Skills team, our goal is to bridge these gaps, providing context-specific resources to strengthen comprehension and equip you with practical tools designed for academic and professional application.

ABOUT US

The Digital Skills
Demonstrators Team

Our workshops are supported by a team of postgraduate student demonstrators from across the university, led by the Technology Enhanced Learning Team's Digital Skills Officer. Together, we deliver teaching and support in a self-led, welcoming setting. This provision also offers valuable paid teaching opportunities for postgraduate students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in an educational setting.

In our workshops, you’ll be invited to engage directly with provided materials, including examples and resources, allowing you to explore topics at your own pace. Our Digital Skills Officer and demonstrators remain available throughout the session and after, ready to answer your questions, provide guidance, and offer practical support to help you make the most of your learning experience.
